Monday Roundup: Welcome Fall!

Right about now I start looking for signs of change in the winds, leaves and natural elements. Fall seems to come quickly here in the North/Midwest, and blusters in with quick winds and playful colors in the leaves. This weekend we took several nature walks to collect items for our home nature table and look for signs that change is upon us.

Right now I'm reading several titles that will help promote positive change in our lives. Stay tuned for a review or two this week as I've found books of interest as fall brings about fresh rounds of newly published books. Ah, we lovers of books like fall for the fresh releases - - and new opportunities to explore "leaves" of all types.

What are you reading this week? Anything you would care to share with other Wormers? Are the winds of change blowing through your house?

I haven't started it yet, but I'm gearing up to read "Diet for a Small Planet." It was originally written 30 years ago and I learned about it from another book I read. I'm really looking forward to digging in.

After seeing the movie I'm reading No Impact Man. And loving it. The personal narrative makes such a huge difference determining if a book will be returned to the library 45 pages in or if I'll stick through to it the end. This is a sticker. Of course the house isn't getting vacuumed but I have a book I like.

I just ordered "Made from Scratch" and also won Green Bean's givaway last week, so I'm not reading anything right now, but waiting patiently for my books to get here :)

I'm dying to see the movie NIM - I've checked out the blog from time to time and enjoyed it.

Ooh, ooh - giveaway winner! That should be a double good post as it was a freebie. Shan

@Heather: I recently saw Francis Moore Lappe speak at our Sustainable Living Fair. She was an inspiring speaker and I have ordered her new book, Liberation Ecology. You can order it from her website:

I'm currently reading Little Heathens by Mildred Armstrong Kalish. So far, it's quite entertaining.

Slightly off-topic....

Heather, one thing to keep in mind with Lappe's books is the bit about food combining. In a later edition, she admitted that her theories on food combining had no basis in scientific fact.

There is absolutely no need to combine grains and legumes in a meal in order to get a "complete protein". She made that up. (Seriously, she has admitted that publicly.)

Unfortunately, the stress she originally put on the need to do this scared many people away from trying to eat a veg diet. And, unfortunately, this misinformation has so permeated our culture that even doctors will state that it is very hard to be a veg*n due to food combining needs. BS!

As long as you eat a varied diet including some grains and legumes (whenever you want), your body will get its protein.

Chile - I haven't started it yet, but it sounds like it will be disappointing. I mean, I know the word "diet" is in the title, but I expected it would be more about eating lower on the food chain rather than prescribing a specific "diet" in todays terms... :(
