The Green Collar Economy - Book Giveaway

I have been so moved by hearing Van Jones speak that I'm posting about his new book, The Green Collar Economy, How One Solution Can Fix Our Two Biggest Problems, before I've read it. The book came out today. I don't even have a copy.

But I've seen Mr. Jones speak to an audience of 2,000 with no one left sitting for the ovation. I've seen him share the stage with a California Senator, with people from the food industry and regardless of the company he finds common ground, a meeting place which invites everyone to work toward a united common good. I'm confidant his book is a continuation of those conversations.

The Green Collar Economy finds itself in good company too. The forward is by Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. The front cover has a blurb by Al Gore (the tiny print at the top). I first read the book was coming out this week at Fake Plastic Fish, who heard about it from Have Fun and Do Good and then I got mail today from Green For All letting me know again. I'm hopeful we'll be hearing about the good work Van Jones encourages from many other places as well.

To further the buzz if you would like to read The Green Collar Economy leave a comment and I'll do a drawing for two people on Saturday and purchase books online (from an independent seller) to be sent to you. Let's spread the word!

I saw Beth's post over at Fake Plastic Fish and tagged the book for my "to-read" list...so if I win it here I'll get to read it that much faster since otherwise I have to wait for my library to get it.

Oh, yes I would definitely LOVE to read it! I saw Beth's post too and reserved it at the library! Awesome!

maya - Isn't it wonderful to have a list of books to-read? Life is good.

gemini - I'm glad to hear that libraries, at least yours, is taking reservations for the book. That's great news. Thank you.

donna - Team members get their names in twice! (Not really but it sounded so good I had to write it. I'll put you name in once though.)

britt - Thank you! This started with you after all. I bought my own copy today at Staceys and the two booksellers I talked to both had seen Van Jones speak. It was terrific. They were as completely taken as I am.

I've never heard Van speak, and have to admit that before a few weeks ago hadn't even heard of him. But it seems that in the last two weeks nearly everyone I know has been mentioning something about him, or this upcoming book...I think it's a sign that I need to know more about his guy and his message! I'd love to be entered!

kim - That's exciting that you keep hearing about Van Jones. I mean you're in Alaska, which I've obviously never been too because it seems so distant and incredibly exotic. You're in. Thanks for the info.

melinda - I can see you jumping around. And I knew before you said anything that you would pass it on after you read it. I love that. Thank you.

latigo liz - That's great. You're in the hat!

theron - Terrific. Thank you.

liz - If the book is only minimally as good as when the man speaks it will be terrific. Your name is in.

I would love to read this book, as well...
The economy has delayed my retirement so I am "greening' here in the suburbs.

Wow, what a generous give-away! In addition to writing my own blog about green parenting, I also blog for JobMonkey.com and have done a number of spots on green collar jobs. Gosh, it seems that once again Internet karma seems to be telling me something -- in this case, it's "Read this book!" Please, sign me up. And thanks again for such a super give-away.

This does look like a great book. I thought about ordering it but I accidentally requested about 5 books from my library all at once and they all came in within the last couple weeks so I've been busy catching up. Definitely sign me up though! What a generous, great idea! :)

april - Van Jones is getting around. I heard him mentioned on the radio today too. All of which makes me hopeful.

agreenfire - We love reviews. Even if you don't win and you do a review, let us know. Okay?

mad - It's likely delayed my retirement too but I'm trying not to go there and simply appreciate where I am. It sounds like you're doing the same. Your lucky name is in the hat.

diana - If you win you could donate the book to the library after you read it. If they do that. I would hope so. You were right the first time though - I put your name in to win. (It will be so fun if you really do.)

mara - Oh good. You're in. Check out Van Jones on YouTube too. He has lots to say about green collar jobs.

jena - Fall always feels like a stack of good books waiting to be read all at once. I love this time of year. You're in and if you win you can just relax and read the book at your whim. Although you may be tempted to put it at the top of the stack!

I will donate it to our library!

ada - Thanks for you spreading the word! I couldn't link to the address you left or I'd have made it live. The word is getting out however that Mr. Van Jones has something to say that we can all get behind and support no matter the differences that may have kept us seperate before.
