Monday Roundup

Good Monday evening, everyone! School's out and summer has officially started here in Oregon. In the spirit of lazy days, my review later this week will be pure fluff! I've just finished a nice little read that's perfect for an hour in a lawnchair (if your kids will let you get away with that!). Also, a little more seriously, I'll share an environmentally friendly way to publish a book.

What about you? Read any fluff lately? Or something more challenging? Leave a comment and let us know! Also, if you would like to be included on the list of bookworms and are not already there, please leave your request in a comment and we'll add you in.

I just read "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society". It was so good I read it straight through non-stop, which I haven't done for years! It's not green, or political, or philosophical, just a fun fiction read. Everybody go find it!

I read Smogtown over the weekend. The book just depressed me and when I was describing my thoughts about the book to my husband, I just broke down and cried. The love for the automobile is killing people and no one wants to get rid of it and stop driving. I sound like a broken record and a lunatic when I complain about cars but it is the one thing that will kill us all and continue poisoning the earth. I can't recommend the book enough, but the story just about killed me. The authors are a bit heavy handed in their writing by their cynical humor is well earned considering the subject matter.

Audrey: Great! Chili picks up the new names every week and adds them in, so look for yours soon.

Joyce: What a title! I might have to look it up just to satisfy my curiosity. Fun fiction sounds like just about my speed right now.

Beany: I don't know -- I might stick with Joyce's recommendation for now. Yours sounds pretty heavy. :) Seriously, thanks for the tip. If you want to write a review, I'd love to post it here.

P.S. to Joyce:
I just searched for the book on our library search engine, expecting nothing (it's a strange tite, after all) and discovered that I have to take number 61 on the waiting list. I guess you're not the only one who likes this book!

I'm guilty of reading mostly fluff these days though I do plan to do a review of a green book, Bothered By My Green Conscience, soon.

I finished Farm City - The Education of an Urban Farmer by Novella Carpenter and I've just posted a review. It's laugh out loud funny and stretch your heart wonderful. I want to read it again.

GB: I'll look forward to it!

Kale: Sounds wonderful! I just put my name in at the library, but I'm #6 on the waiting list. Looks like your pick isn't quite as popular as Joyce's. ;-)
